MEET THE TEAM

Ian Billson

One of the fastest Contact Lens Fitters in the U.K. ( I used to do track days on a very fast bike - 1000cc Yamaha ).

I try to take my birthday present into work with me a few days a week. Most say she is Gorgeous, but we call her Poppy.

We use her as our meet and greet ( she won't try to sell you anything, just happy with a tummy tickle ).

Kosta
Dispensing Optician

I have been in optics since 1990 and qualified as an optician in Greece in 1994. I moved to the UK and qualified as a Dispensing Optician seven years ago, and although I miss the Greek weather and sea, I haven’t regretted my decision.

With over 25 years of experience in optics, I believe that I have dealt with almost every different situation an optician can come across, so if you think that you have a challenge for me, just bring it on! I’ll appreciate it.

In my free time I enjoy Netflix series and internet memes. My favourite holiday is a road trip of 4000 miles, in two weeks, with 3 friends in the car.

Colin
Optometrist

I qualified as an optometrist in 1984, after 4 years of university study. I have practised optometry throughout the world, with 5 of my own practices in the UK and Spain, I started regular locum work for Billson Opticians in 2016. I was highly impressed with the family values, and individual care given to our customers, and became a permanent optometrist.
I enjoy keeping active, and in 2016 won a gold medal in the 3000 meter event, at the Australian Masters Games (age related), held in Alice Springs.

Tracy
Dispensing Optician / Contact Lens Fitter

Started in Optics in 1987 when I was taken on as a temporary receptionist -qualified as a Dispensing Optician and 35 years later - still here !
I have worked mainly for independent opticians and enjoy the freedom this allows to look after your patients in the best way possible .
In my spare time , I am involved in a local amateur dramatic group ,both treading the boards and behind the scenes. I enjoy seeing live music and walking my dog but most of all I enjoy anything that makes me laugh and am willing to give most things a go . (Preferably with a gin & tonic in hand.)

ABOUT CLARE

Clare won Village of the Year in 2010 and Anglia in Bloom award for Best Large Village 2011.
In March 2015 The Sunday Times and Zoopla placed Clare amongst the top 50 UK rural locations, having "period properties and rich history without the chocolate-box perfection – and the coach trips".

Clare has a long history with historical documents demonstrating a community that dates back to the Norman Conquest. It’s pre-historical roots can be demonstrated by the findings of primitive stone tools dating as far back as Neolithic, Mesolithic and even Paleolitihic eras within the Priory grounds.
Clare appears in the Doomsday book as Clara (possibly meaning ‘clear’ in reference to the Chilton Stream as it flows through the town).

Clare Castle is first recorded in 1090 and is a fascinating part of the history of the feudal lords of Clare.

During the mediaeval period, Clare became a prosperous wool textile town. By the 1470’s, Clare provided more cloth than any other county.

There are 133 listed buildings in Clare and 3 of these are Grade 1 religious buildings (the Priory, the Priory Chapel and the parish church of S’s Peter and Paul.)
